Our 36th county
to pray for in South Dakota is Jerauld County, with the city of
Wessington Springs being the county seat. We release the book of Zephaniah
to Jerauld County. Zephaniah's theme is similar to Joel's: "the day of the
Lord" is coming and the fire of God's jealousy was about to descend upon
Judah. This book refers to the "day of the Lord" 23 times in only
three chapters. God is holy and just and must vindicate His righteousness by
calling all the nations of the world into account before Him. But a
righteous remnant would survive, and all who called upon God, Jew or gentile,
would be blessed. Zephaniah's warnings of God's coming wrath contributed
to an outward revival in Jerusalem but did not change the sinfulness of the
nation's leaders.
Zephaniah concludes his book by writing wonderfully of Jesus the Messiah reigning in Zion (Zephaniah 3:14-20). Here Zephaniah looks beyond judgment and changes the tone of the remainder of the book to blessing for this, too, is an aspect of the day of the Lord. The nation will be cleansed and will call on the name of the Lord (3:9-10). And as the faithful remnant will be regathered, redeemed, and restored, they will rejoice in their Redeemer, and He will be in their midst. Zephaniah closes with true worship, rejoicing, and blessing. And God Himself is celebrating, "The Lord your God in your midst, the Might One will save, He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing" (3:17).
Father in the name of Jesus, we thank you for the people and land of Jerauld County. We thank you that the people of Jerauld County will heed the warning of "the day of the Lord," and prepare their hearts to lead the way in a mighty revival among the people. And that your remnant will rise up and have it made known in the land that there is a God who truly saves, redeems, and restores. Cause them to know You are in their very midst, and quiet them with Your love. We release the spirit of joy on Jerauld County as they now realize you are rejoicing over them in singing. Let the true worshipers arise in Jerauld County. Let revival now burn across this land!
